Lampton services drives green economy employment opportunities

As part of its commitment to driving Hounslow towards a greener and more resilient future, Lampton Services has provided learners in the borough’s second Green Skills Bootcamp course with work experience opportunities. The training forms part of a free four-week course funded by the Mayor of London and delivered in partnership with Hounslow Council, Hounslow Highways and Maydencroft, providing residents with the skills and expertise they need to gain employment within the green sector.

Trainees also rejuvenated one of the beds at Bedfont Lakes Country Park, preparing it for autumn bulb planting which will be carried out by volunteers in the coming weeks.

Prior to their work experience with Lampton Services, the learners attended two weeks of classroom-based sessions with horticultural firm Maydencroft. They then went on to complete a week of employability skills training.

Simon Shewry, Director of Commercial and Transformational Services at Lampton Services, said, “We are proud to be supporting Hounslow Council in delivering the second cohort of the Green Skills Bootcamp. The programme is really valuable in identifying the skills gap within the green economy and bringing together like-minded organisations and businesses to resolve this, while creating more sustainable employment opportunities within the borough.

Councillor Katherine Dunne, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council and Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport, said: “Hounslow Council is leading on the growth of London’s green economy and the Mayor of London-funded Green Skills Bootcamps are a hugely important part of upskilling Hounslow residents and Londoners into green sectors.

“We’re delighted to be working with Lampton Services, Hounslow Highways, and Maydencroft to train Hounslow and Ealing residents who enrol in the free four-week course. Collaboration is key to best provide best-in-class training for residents, and we’ll be continuing to do so through to the training’s third cohort in February 2024.”
