Lampton Services plants more than 500 trees in Hounslow, supporting a greener borough

Lampton Services Greenspace is planting more than 500 trees across Hounslow this winter to support the borough towards a greener, more sustainable future. As part of its commitment to ensuring a cleaner and greener borough, Hounslow Council has pledged to plant 22,500 trees borough-wide by 2026, and Lampton Services Greenspace is supporting the Council toward its goal with an extensive tree planting programme.

The trees consist of more than 50 different species, including pine trees, firs and cedars. They also consist of a variety of native and non-native species. These species have been carefully selected by Lampton Services’ Greenspaces team of experienced arborists to ensure they are compatible with Hounslow’s conditions including its climate, rainfall and wildlife. By planting such a diverse range of tree species, the Greenspace team can ensure the new trees thrive and support local ecosystems for many years to come.

The new trees are being planted across 40 Hounslow parks, with Lampton Services’ Greenspace team introducing innovative new measures to maintain and protect them. Trees and hedges will also be planted throughout residential areas and at a local tennis club.  Implemented last year, weed membrane will again be used throughout the different sites to reduce competition for water. In addition to this, new sprinklers will be installed to help water the new copses.

Lampton Greenspace is also partnering with the Council again to deliver the ‘Free Trees for Hounslow’ initiative. With 750 free fruit trees available to residents, schools, local faith and community groups, the programme helps Hounslow residents engage with nature and plays a direct role in creating a more sustainable borough. The remaining collection events are scheduled for Sunday 14th January at Boston Manor Park in Brentford and Sunday 21st January at Turnham Green in Chiswick.

Liam Moore, Head of Greenspace, Lampton Services, says: “As Hounslow Council works towards an ambitious tree planting target over the next three years, we are delighted to be driving the borough towards a greener and more sustainable future. Our expert team ensures we plant the right species in the right parks at the right times so that they can thrive. We know the local community has a vital role to play in establishing a greener Hounslow and we are proud to be helping residents get involved through the ‘Free Trees for Hounslow’ initiative.”

Martin Cresswell, Executive Chair at Lampton Group, says: “Environmental stewardship is core to Lampton Group’s social purpose. By supporting the council through initiatives such as its annual tree planting programme, we’re proud to be driving the borough’s sustainability vision while enhancing cherished community green spaces.”

Councillor Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Recreation, Public Spaces & Parking at Hounslow Borough Council says: “Our commitment to achieving the tree planting target set out in the Council’s Corporate Plan is unwavering, and I’m proud of the brilliant work carried out each week that contributes to a cleaner and greener Hounslow.

“More than 20,000 new trees to be established between 2022 and 2026 is an ambitious target, but with the support of Lampton Services Greenspace and its expertise, we’re in a strong place to continue hitting our tree planting targets each season.”
